Liquid Painting
Liquid painting applies a wet paint coating to the metal surface. The process can include surface preparation, primer, color coating, and curing.
One advantage of liquid painting is its flexibility. It supports a wide range of colors and can be suitable for parts with specific appearance requirements or applications where color matching is important.
However, the final performance depends heavily on surface preparation, coating selection, and curing conditions. For parts exposed to frequent handling, abrasion, or demanding industrial environments, the coating specification should be selected carefully.

Powder Coating
Powder coating uses electrostatic spraying to apply dry powder to the metal surface, followed by heating to cure the coating.
It is widely used for industrial sheet metal because it provides a durable and uniform finish. Powder coating can offer good resistance to wear, impact, and corrosion when the coating system is properly selected for the application.
It is commonly used for:
- Industrial equipment enclosures
- Electrical cabinets
- Machine housings
- Sheet metal brackets
- Control panels
- Automation equipment frames
Compared with liquid painting, powder coating generally produces a thicker and more durable coating, but it may be less convenient when very small areas need to be repaired or when highly specific color matching is required.
What Finish Should You Choose?
The best surface treatment depends on the working environment and product requirements.
| Requirement | Liquid Painting | Powder Coating |
|---|---|---|
| Color flexibility | High | High |
| Wear resistance | Good | Generally higher |
| Corrosion protection | Depends on coating system | Generally good |
| Local repair | Easier | More difficult |
| Industrial equipment | Suitable | Widely used |
| Appearance customization | Flexible | Multiple textures and finishes |
For precision sheet metal parts, surface treatment should also be considered during the design stage. Bending areas, holes, threads, mating surfaces, and assembly interfaces may require specific treatment or masking requirements.
At Shenzhen Jingcheng Dingyi Precision Manufacturing, we support custom sheet metal fabrication and precision metal part manufacturing based on customer drawings and application requirements. Our team can review material, thickness, dimensions, manufacturing processes, and surface treatment requirements before production.
