Industrial automation equipment often consists of many small mechanical components that need to work together accurately. Mounting brackets, support plates, shafts, housings and positioning components may look simple individually, but their dimensions and interfaces directly affect the final assembly.
Jingcheng recently completed CNC machining of a batch of custom components for an automation equipment project.
The parts were manufactured according to customer drawings and included several machined holes, pockets and mounting surfaces. During process planning, the machining team first identified the main reference surfaces and assembly features.
For aluminum components, CNC milling was used to create pockets and structural features while keeping the parts lightweight. Stainless steel components required different cutting conditions and tool selection because of their higher strength and machining characteristics.
One important consideration for automation parts is repeatability. Components used in the same equipment need to maintain consistent dimensions so that assembly does not require unnecessary adjustment.

For more complex parts, 5-axis CNC machining can provide better access to angled surfaces and reduce the need for multiple setups. Simpler brackets and plates can often be produced efficiently with 3-axis machining.
After machining, the parts were deburred, cleaned and inspected. Critical holes, mounting surfaces and overall dimensions were checked against the customer's drawings.
